The War Production Board Turns Down DeKalb in 1942: "All Strategic Materials for Military Purposes"

1942, 75 Years Ago.

"The application by the city of DeKalb for permission to purchase an electric heater with thermostat control to be used in heating the water pumping station on Pearl Street has been refused by the War Production Board.

"It gives as the reason 'Due to extreme acute situation in critical materials and great and urgent need of them to equip our armed forces, we find it necessary to conserve all strategic materials for military purposes.  All other activities must be subordinated to this need'."
